Healthcare Reform FAQ > Unified Health Care Financing > Wouldn't doctors lose control of their practices?
No, providers have less control now than they will under a unified health care financing system. With a single, unified system, providers will base medical decisions on the best interest ofthe patient, rather than the interests of the insurance companies. A unified system will mean less paperwork for clinicians because it will streamline the billing process. Studies comparing costs in U.S. physicians’ offices with those in other industrialized countries conclude that U.S. physicians spend three times as much on billing.
