Thanks to Washington voters, there will be a lot of pressure on the state legislature to deliver a path to single payer universal health care in the 2019 Legislative Session.
Here's what happened in the historic, high turnout 2018 Midterm Election:
★ 7 NEW HCFA-WA HEALTH CARE CHAMPIONS WERE ELECTED:
- LD 10 - House: Dave Paul
- LD 30 - Senate: Claire Wilson
- LD 34 - Senate: Joe Nguyen
- LD 41 - House: My-Linh Thai
- LD 42 - House: Sharon Shewmake
- LD 47 - Senate: Mona Das
- LD 48 - House: Amy Whalen
★ Democrats now have a solid majority in the Legislature -- by 8 in the Senate, and 16 in the House.
- 29-20 Majority in the State Senate
- 57-41 Majority in the State House
- Dems will have 7 out of 11 seats on the Senate Health Care Committee
★ We have the potential for over 40 co-sponsors for our priority bills.
★ We have HCC Champions and previous Co-Sponsors in just over half of the Washington state LDs (25 out of 49 LDs).
★ 6 additional Legislative Districts now have a Champion for state-based single payer universal health care
- South King County Support for Single Payer Strengthened in the Senate - LD 30 Claire Wilson, LD 47 Mona Das
-Whatcom County/Bellingham now has an HCC Representative in the 42nd, Sharon Shewmake
